Lions Mane (Hericium) are beautiful, delicious, delicate and have a wonderful seafood / crab flavor and texture that can easily be substituted for seafood. They are high in vitamins and minerals and also contain specific compounds which are believed to help with multiple health benefits such as enhancing brain function, boosting your immune system and assisting in controlling high blood sugar levels, to name a few. As some mushrooms can be eaten raw, it is highly recommended that gourmet mushrooms be cooked from 140° - 160° F, prior to consumption.
Lions Mane Mushroom
Planting
When your Lions Mane ‘Block’ is lightly covered or ‘knitted’ with mycellium it is ready to Plant or cut.
You can either make 1 large diagonal cut or an ‘X’ across 1 side of your bag, leaving at least 1”-2” on the bottom to allow room to grow without hitting your table or shelf on which it has been placed.
Directions
Select a well ventilated area, with 8-12 hours of light and a temperature between 60° - 73° F.
Cut 1 side and ‘spritz’ daily with warm water. ‘Spritz’ several times daily if higher temps or your lions mane appears to be dry.
Harvest before the ‘teeth’ have fully formed.
Repeat on the opposite side of the bag.
After all harvests, remove the plastic bag and place your block into a mulched area or flower bed covering well. Fingers crossed for an outdoor harvest soon to come!
Oyster mushrooms have velvety caps that cook down into something both soft and pleasantly meaty. Their flavors vary from mild to sweet to rich and earthy, all rich in umami, often described as having light seafood-like undertones—a quality that inspired their name, making them a versatile ingredient in many dishes.
